Elks News · Boys Basketball Concludes Tremendous 23-4 Season

The boys basketball team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday night at The Cintas Center with a 63-49 loss to fellow GWOC Central member Wayne. After falling behind 17-2 early on, this Elks team showed the grit and determination that led to their success this year by scoring the final four points of the first quarter and then outscoring Wayne 15-7 in the second quarter to head to the locker room down just 24-21. They continued their strong play in the third quarter and eventually took a 32-31 lead on a Kyle Dodson three pointer. After Wayne answered with a three of their own, Clayton Schmerber drove in for a nifty lay-up to tie the score at 34-34. The Warriors then finished the third quarter on an 8-0 spurt to head to the final 8 minutes with a 42-34 lead. Once again, this team refused to quit and outscored the Warriors 7-2 in the first four minutes of the final quarter to trail just 44-41. Unfortunately, Wayne was able to pull away by going a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line down the stretch and end the Elks season at 23-4.

Congratulations to the eight seniors on this year’s team. You have laid the groundwork for future teams and the outlook is very bright thanks to all of your hard work, dedication and effort. You will all be missed and we want to wish you nothing but the best of luck as you start the next chapter of your lives.
