The varsity softball team hosted the Northmont Thunderbolts in a key Central Division showdown on Monday night. Junior pitcher Mollie Paulick pitched a brilliant game, but her counterpart from Northmont was equally as good. The game was tied 1-1 early on and stayed that way through the seventh, forcing the game into extra innings. Neither team could score in the 8th so this battle went to the 9th inning still tied at 1. Paulick sat down the T’Bolts in the top of the ninth and the Lady Elks finally got a runner on in the bottom of the 9th. That is when freshman Amanda Ross decided this game had gone on long enough and launched a 2-run, walk-off home run to give the Elks a huge, 3-1 victory, the team’s 8th straight. Now 11-5 on the year, and 7-0 in GWOC Central play, the Lady Elks travel to Northmont High School tonight for a 5:00 game. With a win tonight, they clinch the outright GWOC Central Division championship.
The JV team fell at Northmont last night, 9-4. They host the T’bolts here at CHS tonight at 5:00.
