The varsity softball team played host to the Wayne Warriors on Senior Night with a chance to claim the GWOC Central Title. Prior to the game, Seniors Claire Garber and Alyssa Samborsky were honored along with their families.
Once the game got underway, the Warriors scored first in the top of the 2nd to take an early 1-0 lead. The Elks answered right away with some timely hitting from Caroline and Olivia Ferrazza, Raquel Emery and Alyssa Samborsky to put a 4-spot on Wayne in the bottom of the 2nd and take a commanding 4-1 lead. From there, they rode the brilliant pitching of Junior Mollie Paulick and some great defense to a 5-1 win to clinch the outright GWOC Central Division Championship, their 2nd straight after sharing it with Northmont last year.
The JV team won at Wayne, 6-1.
Now 14-8 on the year, 9-1 in GWOC Central, the Elks return to action on Thursday night at home when they host Clinton Massie and then travel to Wright State on Friday night to take on perennial power Greenville. Both games begin at 5:00 PM. The JV team travels to Clinton Massie on Thursday for a 5PM game and are off on Friday.
