Varsity Girls Softball · Softball Loses Heartbreaker in Extra Innings

The varsity softball team finally got their 2017 season underway last night when they hosted the Covington Buccaneers here at Centerville High School.  The two teams battled the entire evening and the Elks faced a 7-6 deficit heading to the bottom of the seventh inning.  The girls responded to the challenge and scored to tie the game at 7 and had the bases loaded with two outs.  Unfortunately, they were not able to get the winning run home and Covington scratched across one run in the top of the 8th and then held on defense to escape with the 8-7 win.

Now 0-1 on the year, the girls leave this afternoon for Tennessee where they will play in the Upper Cumberland Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The JV team traveled to Lebanon last night and quickly found themselves in a 5-0 hole.  The girls then pulled themselves off the mat and held the Warriors the rest of the way while scoring six times themselves to escape with a 6-5 win.
