The varsity softball team traveled to Cookesville, Tennessee this weekend to compete in the Upper Cumberland tournament. The Elks played three times on Friday and twice on Saturday.
In their first game on Friday night, the Elks took on Obion County Central HS from Tennessee. It was a well-played game by both teams, but the Elks came up on the short end of a 3-1 score. They then played Homewood-Flossmoor from the metro Chicago, Illinois area. Much like the first game, the Elks struggled to score and fell, 2-1. In their third and final game Friday night, the Elks faced Madisonville North Hopkins from Kentucky. The Elks were out of gas by this point and dropped an 8-2 decision.
On Saturday afternoon, the girls picked up their first win of the season when they cruised past Gordonsville High School from Tennessee, 16-0. Their tourney run ended in their next game when they were blanked by Macon County from Lafayette, Tennessee, 6-0 to finish 1-4 in the tournament.
Now 1-5 on the year, the Elks open up GWOC NL East play tonight, weather permitting, when they travel to Huber Heights to take on the Wayne Warriors. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM. The JV team will host the Warriors here at CHS, also at 5:00 PM.
