The varsity boys lacrosse team welcomed the Fairmont Firebirds to Alumni Stadium for Senior Night tonight. The boys were trying to erase a two-game losing streak following a 10-3 home loss to Sycamore in a driving rain storm on Friday night and a 20-7 loss in The Pit at Elder on Saturday afternoon.
Following the Senior Night ceremony held before the game, the boys came out focused and determined to break that streak. They did so with an efficient offense and a stingy defense as they raced to a 5-0 lead after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, the Elks added to their lead and led, 11-0, as the two teams headed to the locker room. In the third quarter, the Elks continued their strong play and led, 16-0, heading to the final 12 minutes of play. In that final quarter, they were able to complete the shutout and post a 22-0 victory.
Now 9-8 on the year, the Elks now turn their attention to the first ever OHSAA state tournament where they will open as the 12 seed at fifth seeded Loveland next Wednesday, May 17 at 6:00 PM.
