The varsity girls lacrosse team traveled to Liberty Township last night to take on the Lakota East Thunderhawks in the school’s first ever OHSAA state tournament game. Entering the game as the #12 seed, the Elks knew they faced an uphill battle against eighth seeded Lakota East.
The girls battled the Thunderhawks throughout the game, but ended up on the short end of an 11-7 decision. The loss ended the most successful season in program history as the girls hit double digit wins for the first time ever, finishing with a 10-6 record. Every field player, including all five senior defenders, scored this season. Last year, the team was ranked in the 90’s and this year the team has been ranked in the low 40’s out of 131 teams in the state. Tremendous improvement and the groundwork has been laid for a bright future.
Congratulations, girls! Best of luck to all seniors in the future and a special best wish to outgoing Head Coach Courtney Johnson as she moves to Columbus.
