Coming off a West Regional Championship with a strong showing last Saturday night at Northmont, the boys volleyball team traveled to Capital University on Saturday looking to continue that momentum against Cincinnati powerhouse St. Xavier. The Elks battled the Bombers the entire match, but were never able to break through and fell, 3-0.
In the first set, the Bombers jumped out to a quick, 9-4 lead which forced the Elks to call a timeout. Unfortunately the Bombers rode that momentum to a 25-18 first set victory. The second set was much tighter, but the Bombers made the big plays down the stretch to post a 25-21 victory and push the Elks to the brink of elimination. As it did in set two, the Bombers got the big points when they needed them most to post a 25-20 victory to sweep the match, 3-0, and earn a spot in the state semifinals.
The Elks finished the year with a 12-14 overall record and a West Regional Championship. Congratulations to all the seniors on this year’s team. We thank you for your dedication to the program these past four years and wish you nothing but the best in the future.
