On Saturday night at Alumni Stadium, the varsity boys soccer team continued a great relationship they established with the Belmont team by hosting them in a regular season, non-conference game.
As is typically the case with our outstanding student section, The Herd, they displayed great sportsmanship and character by splitting in half during the game. One half stayed on the home side to cheer on the Elks while the other half went to the visitors side to allow Belmont to experience what a loud student section in their favor is like.
Once the game got underway, the Elks cruised to a 13-2 win behind senior Christian Kohen’s record-breaking 7 goal performance. Ironically enough, the record of 6 goals in a game which Christian broke was set by his dad, Brian, in 1982 and tied by Dave Kinderdine in 1984.
At the conclusion of the game, both teams gathered at Alumni Stadium and devoured pizza and enjoyed each other’s company. It is acts like these that make Centerville High School such a special place.
In the opening game of the night, the JV B team edged Walnut Hills, 1-0.
The boys are back in action tomorrow night when they welcome the Springfield Wildcats to Alumni Stadium for Senior Night. The JV A game gets underway at 5:30 PM and will be followed by the varsity at approximately 7:15.
