The varsity boys soccer team played their final regular season game of the year last night at Alumni Stadium. The boys entered the game with a chance to win the National League East title with a win. The only thing standing in their way was the unbeaten, second ranked Beavercreek Beavers which made this no small task.
The Beavers struck first in the first half and took a 1-0 lead which would hold up through the end of the first half. The Beavers really upped the pressure in the second half and got another goal with 20 minutes left to take a commanding, 2-0 lead. Shortly after the Beavers made it 3-0, Cole Zengel struck for the Elks to make it 3-1 and avoid the shutout.
In the first game of the night, the JV A team played the Beavers to a scoreless tie.
The Elks finish the regular season with an overall record of 10-3-3 and a 6-1-1 record in the NL East which was good enough for second place. The boys open up tournament play next Tuesday night at home against the Belmont Bison at Alumni Stadium in the OHSAA Sectional Tournament. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
