The varsity wrestling team made the long trip up 75 North this past weekend to compete in the always tough, Perrysburg Invitational. This is a two-day tournament featuring some of the best wrestling teams from multiple divisions in the state.
The Elks finished 13th in the 25-team field, just three points behind Akron Firelands and Gibsonburg, who tied for 11th. The team had several wrestlers advance to Saturday’s finals based on their efforts on Friday. These wrestlers were Brendan Kirts at 126, Avery Bair at 132, Drew Wiechers at 152, Deaglan Pyle at 160, Thomas Bennett at 182, Michael Geier at 195 and Jacob Charette at 285. In the finals, Pyle finished seventh overall and Charette took sixth. Drew Wiechers won the 152 pound weight class and left Perrysburg with some more hardware to add to his growing collection.
The boys are back in action on Wednesday night when they host Fairmont in the annual Battle of Far Hills here at CHS. The freshman and JV get underway at 6:00 and the varsity at 7:30.
