The boys and girls varsity bowling teams welcomed the Wayne Warriors to Poelking South last night for a first place showdown in the National League East as the conference championship race is really beginning to heat up and take shape.
In the boys varsity match, the Elks broke two school records in cruising to an easy, 2819-2311, victory. The first record they broke was the team 10-pin game record. The old record was 1,222 and the boys rolled a 1,227 last night. The other record broken was the team 2+2 series record. The old record was 2,775 and the new record as of last night is now 2,819. Dylan Dobran led everyone with an impressive 526 series. He was followed by Mason Eckley who fired a 499. The win kept the boys unbeaten in conference play and tied with Fairmont for first place.
In the girls varsity match, the Elks pulled within a half of a game of Wayne by handing the Warriors their first defeat, 2,303-2,006. The girls were led by their dynamic senior duo of Peyton Watson, who rolled a 435, and Brogan Zengel, who added a 424. The girls are now 4-1 in conference play which puts them in a second place tie with Beavercreek and Fairmont. All three teams trail 5-1 Wayne by 1/2 game.
The boys JV team beat the Warriors, 2,104-1,678 and the girls JV team did not have a match as Wayne does not have enough bowlers for a JV team.
Both boys teams return to action tomorrow when they travel to the Lancer Baker Bash at Northwest Lanes. Bowling there gets underway at 10:00 AM. The girls teams head to that same tournament on Sunday where they will also get underway at 10:00 AM.
