The varsity wrestling team competed at the OHSAA Sectional Tournament this past weekend here at the high school. Following two days of grueling competition, the Elks qualified six wrestlers to next week’s District Finals at Trent Arena in Kettering.
Jacob Goetz was sectional runner-up and qualified for Districts at 285. He was joined there by a trio of young men who finished fourth and earned a spot as well. They are Avery Bair (132), Alex Clemens (138) and Kayden Schmidt (160). Logan Brown finished third at 120 and also qualified to next week’s event. Leading the way for the Elks was Drew Wiechers at 152. He followed his GWOC championship from two weeks ago with a Sectional title this time around.
Barely missing out, but qualifying as an alternate was Deaglan Pyle at 170 thanks to his fifth place finish. If any of the four wrestlers above him cannot go this weekend for any reason, he will join his teammates at Trent Arena.
Wrestling well to conclude their seasons were Kobe Taylor (6th at 113), Brendan Kirts (6th at 126), Jonathan Tremblay (6th at 145) and Michael Geier (6th at 195).
The District tournament is this Friday and Saturday at Trent Arena in Kettering. Wrestling on Friday gets underway at 4:00 and concludes on Saturday at 10:00.
