The varsity boys basketball team traveled to Butler High School on Friday night to take on the Wayne Warriors in the District Semifinals. The Elks had lost both games to the Warriors during the regular season by four points at home and three points on the road so they were hoping for a different outcome this time around. Unfortunately for the Elks, the third time was not a charm and the Warriors ended the Elks season at 13-11.
The game got off to a great start for the Elks as senior Jevon Henderson was dominating in the paint and on the glass. After one quarter, the Elks had a 13-8 lead and Jevon had eight points. The second quarter saw the teams play to a stalemate for the most part. In the end, the Warriors won the quarter, 11-9, but the Elks took a 22-19 lead to the locker room. The first part of the third quarter saw the teams stay pretty close with each other, but Wayne had one of their trademark spurts to close out the third quarter and suddenly had a 43-35 lead with just eight minutes to play. The Elks hopes for a rally were dashed early in the fourth quarter by the Warriors who continued to pour it on en route to a 60-46 win to sweep the three-game season series and punch their ticket to the District Finals next Saturday at UD Arena.
Jevon Henderson led the Elks with 18.
