The varsity wrestling team sent six wrestlers to the District Finals this past weekend at Trent Arena in Kettering. All of the wrestlers were looking for a spot in this weekends State Championships at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
Wrestling in the 152 pound weight class, junior Drew Wiechers earned a spot in Saturday’s championship semifinals by winning on Friday night. On Saturday, he dropped that match, 6-3, but bounced back later in the day to win his final two matches and earned a third place finish and a spot in this weekend’s state championships.
Wrestling in the 285 pound (heavyweight) weight class, sophomore Jacob Goetz also earned a spot in Saturday’s championship semifinals based on his efforts Friday night. Unfortunately for Jacob, he was not able to get through on Saturday and wound up finishing 6th with a final season record of 14-9.
Logan Brown (120), Avery Bair (132) and Kayden Schmidt (160) earned wrestle back opportunities on Friday night for Saturday. Logan Brown and Kayden Schmidt both dropped their first consolation match on Saturday to conclude their seasons. Bair won his first match in OT to stay alive and then dropped a hard fought, 6-3, decision in his second match to conclude his season.
Wrestling in the 138 pound weight class, Alex Clemens dropped both of his matches on Friday night to conclude his season.
