The varsity baseball team traveled to Butler last night to take on the Aviators in a tournament tune-up for both teams. The Elks fell behind early and trailed, 8-4, as they came to bat in the top of the seventh inning. Things looked bleak for the Elks against the #6 seed in the tournament, but the Elks bowed their backs, found their bats and rallied to score five runs to stun Butler, 9-8. Junior pitcher Shea Hendrixson pitched five innings in relief to get the win while fellow juniors Thomas Jenkins and Drew Smith led the offense. Jenkins had three hits while Smith had the game-winning RBI.
Now 16-10 on the year, the Elks now set their sights on the District semifinals on Thursday night and a rubber match with Beavercreek. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM at Xenia High School.
