One cannot look at the 2018 boys volleyball schedule and accuse the Elks of ducking anyone. The boys hosted the top ranked team in Division I, Moeller, last Tuesday. They then traveled to the Division II top ranked team, Alter, last Friday before finally hosting the Division I third ranked team, Elder, tonight. To say that is running the gauntlet is quite an understatement. To look at this and realize these games all happened in the last seven days is downright scary.
The Elks needed to bring their A game and hope for some help from Elder. Unfortunately for the Elks, neither of those happened. Elder claimed the first set 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead. The Elks battled but lost set two 25-19 as well. The third set was competitive as well and the Elks had their chances, but the Panthers prevailed, 25-22, to sweep the match, 3-0.
In the first match of the night, the JV B team was defeated by Elder, 2-0. The set scores were 25-16 and 25-14. In the middle match of the night, the JV A team also fell, 2-0. The set scores were 30-28 and 25-21.
Now 12-11 on the year, the Elks are right back in action tomorrow when they welcome the Lakota West Firebirds to CHS for Senior Night. The JV A game gets underway at 5:30 PM and will be followed by the varsity at approximately 7:00 PM. The senior night ceremony will take place on the floor immediately after the JV A game has ended.
