Elks News · Boys Soccer Survives Fairmont with 1-0 Victory

According to Greek mythology, the Firebird (or phoenix), is a long-lived bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again.  Associated with the Sun, the Firebird obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor.

Last night, the Boys Soccer Varsity and JVA hosted the Fairmont Firebirds in a set of GWOC matches.  Was this version of the Firebirds a stronger reborn version of the Lakota West Firebirds that both Elks teams easily vanquished several weeks ago?  Or is the legend of the Firebird pure fiction and this version was just another mediocre opponent with a fierce sounding bird mascot?

Varsity dominated possession and goal scoring opportunities, but could only manage 1 goal, in a 1-0 victory.  Aleks Thomas scored off a great pass from Ryan Forino midway through the 1st half for the game-winner.  Josh Seebacher recorded his 3rd shutout of the season.  Varsity improves to 7-0-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in the GWOC.

JVA made its argument for the former, with a resounding 6-0 victory.  Alex Weller and Andrew Nangle each scored 2 goals, while Rohan Dhingra and Nate Gottron tallied goals as well.  Matt Fahrenkamp, Alec West, and Karsten Jonson assisted on the goals.  Keaton Haugen and Nathan Smith combined for JVA’s 5th shutout of the season.  JVA’s record now stands at 6-1-1 and 5-0-0 in the GWOC.

Tomorrow (SATURDAY), JVB travels to Sycamore High School to take on the Aviators.  Kick-off is at 1:00 p.m.  Sycamore High School Soccer Field is located at 7670 Cornell Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.
On TUESDAY,    Varsity and JVA host the Springboro Panthers at Alumni Stadium in a huge set of matches.  JVA kicks-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by Varsity at 7:15 p.m.  It’s Senior Night, so come out, pack the stands, and make this an unforgettable night for our Seniors.
