Elks News · Varsity Football Drops Road Game To Lebanon

The varsity football team again continued to battle on Friday giving great effort at Lebanon but fell short 12-20 and fell to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the GWOC East. The Elks took a 7-0 lead as Freshmen QB Chase Harrison hit Junior RB Bryce McMahon for a 17 yard TD pass with 4:04 left in the 1st quarter. Lebanon answerd less then 2 minutes later to tie the score at 7-7 with 2:57 left in the 1st quarter. Both defenses settled in and the 2nd quarter was a defensive battle until the Elks drove down to the Warriors 1 yard line but fumbled the ball back to the Warriors just short of the goal line. Two plays later the Elks defense was able to force a safety and the Elks led 9-7 at the half.

The 3rd quarter was once again dominated by the defenses and Lebanon managed to take a 10-9 lead on a 43 yard field goal with 4:23 left in the 3rd quarter which carried into the 4th quarter. With 11:12 left in the 4th quarter Sr. Brandon Walters hit a 37 yard field goal to put the Elks up 12-10. At the 7:12 mark Lebanon hit a 38 yard field goal to put the Warriors on top for good. The Elks never really threatened offensively the rest of the night and fumbled a punt back to the Warriors at our own 2 yard line with 1:56 left in the game to provide Lebanon with the insurance score.

The defense played outstanding and kept the Elks in the game, the offense just could not get going consistently. The boys gave great effort and are continuing to improve. The Elks now move on to their last home game this Friday at 7:00 pm on a night where we will honor our 2018 seniors.  Tickets are for sell in the Athletic Office Monday-Friday 7:30-3:30 pm, $6 adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. All tickets at the gate are $8. Come out and show your true support of these kids and coaches this Friday!

The JV team lost to Lebanon 15-41 and the 9th grade team beat Lebanon 29-13 for their 5th straight win.
