The varsity girls soccer team welcomed the Sidney Yellow Jackets to Alumni Stadium yesterday for Senior Night 2018. Prior to the game, this year’s seniors were honored on the field in a pregame ceremony with their families.
Once the game got underway, sophomore Kenzie Smith put the Elks on the board with a beautiful goal to take a 1-0 lead with 18 minutes remaining. That would be the score as the two teams headed to their respective locker rooms to make halftime adjustments. Early in the second half, the visiting Yellow Jackets stunned the Elks with a quick goal and the game was tied, 1-1, with 38 minutes left. The game would remain tied until one of the seniors made their mark. Sidney Kemp scored with 13 minutes left to give the Lady Elks a 2-1 lead. From there, the defense help up and the girls escaped with a hard-fought win. In the first game of the night, the JV A team cruised to a 9-0 win.
Now 12-1-2 overall and 6-1 in NL East play, the girls play their final regular season game at home tomorrow night, and it is a big one. The unbeaten, highly ranked Beavercreek Beavers roll into Alumni Stadium to decide the East. A Beavercreek win or a tie makes the Beavers the outright champions. A win by the Lady Elks means the two teams will share the division title. The JV A game gets underway at 5:30 PM and will be followed by the varsity at approximately 7:15.
