The Centerville wrestling team got off to a roaring start on Saturday as all three levels were in action down south. The varsity team was at Harrison High School for the highly competitive Harrison Duals while the JV team was at Lakota East for their invitational and the freshman team was at Purcell-Marian for their invite.
At the Harrison duals, the varsity team went 3-2. They posted dominating wins over Hewitt Trussville High School from Alabama, 56-13, East Central High School from Indiana, 53-21, and Franklin County High School from Indiana, 63-16. They dropped matches to Brownsburg High School from Indiana, 49-7, and then dropped a heartbreaker to Ashland High School, 39-37.
The JV team entered a very competitive 14-team tournament at Lakota East High School. The Elks wrestled well all day and finished as tournament runners-up.
The freshman team wrestled in the Purcell-Marian Invite against top competition as well from the Cincinnati area. The Elks had two champions, a runner-up, a third place finisher and two fourth-place finishers. Winning championships inn their weight classes were Simon Taylor at 98 pounds and Nolan Winfield at 152 pounds. Ethan Trout was runner-up at 98 pounds and Sal Mauro finished third at 106 pounds. The two fourth place finishers were John Schlade at 132 pounds and Sam Jaynes at 145 pounds.
All three teams are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Springboro High School to take on the Panthers and the Versailles Tigers in a tri-match. Action gets underway at Springboro High School at 5:30 PM.
