The varsity Lady Elks hosted a very talented Wayne Warrior team on Monday night. The Lady Warriors were ready to play and came out on fire and led the Lady Elks 19-11 at the end of the 1st quarter. The second quarter was more back and forth but the Lady Elks still trailed at the half 29-36. The constant pressure that the Elks put on as well as the pace of the game began to show on the Lady Warriors as the Lady Elks outscored them 17-7 in the 3rd quarter to take a 46-43 lead into the 4th quarter. Buckets by Cotie McMahon and Amy Velasco continued to maintain the lead and a timely three point basket by Emma Stanley held off the Lady Warriors as the Lady Elks won 66-60.
Freshmen Cotie McMahon had 25 points and controlled the boards all night long. Sophomore point guard Amy Velasco had 20 points and a great field general game. The girls are now 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the GWOC East.
The varsity team is off until they travel to Indiana over the holiday to play in the Hoops4Pink Tourney Dec. 26th-29th hosted at Bishop Noll Institute located in Hammond, IN just outside of Chicago.
