The boys and girls bowling teams welcomed the Fairmont Firebirds to Poelking South last night for Senior Night. The girls, already GWOC East champions this year, were looking to remain unbeaten in league play for the year while the boys were trying to keep pace with Beavercreek with a big match looming in the near future to determine the East champion. Mission accomplished.
The girls varsity team sprinted to a big lead and cruised by the Firebirds, 2,203-1,750. Leading the way for the Elks were Erika Taylor with a 440 and Payton Watson with a 418. The JV girls were victorious as well, 1,801-1,489.
The boys varsity team built a big lead as well and were up by 114 pins heading into the last baker game of the match. The Firebirds won that game by 50 pins to close the final gap, but the Elks still won comfortably, 2,601-2,537. Leading the way for the boys were Ian Dobran with a 485 and Kyle Moyer with a 477. Ian had 11 consecutive strikes in one game and rolled what appeared to be a perfect ball on his final shot only to have one stubborn pin remain standing to settle for a 299. Outstanding job, Ian! The JV boys completed the sweep with a 2,137-1,728 win.
The JV teams are back in action today and tomorrow at the JV Lancer Baker Bash at Northwest Lanes in Cincinnati. The boys go today and the girls tomorrow with action starting both days at 8:30 AM. The varsity teams are back in action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Victory Lanes in Springfield to take on the Wildcats. Action there gets underway at 4:30 PM.
The varsity boys are 9-1 in GWOC play while the girls are a perfect 10-0.
