Varsity Boys Hockey · Hockey Knocked Out Of SWOHSHL Tourney

The Hockey team had a strong showing over the weekend in the Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League Tournament. The team came out strong and fast against Beavercreek on Friday night, scoring on the first two possessions of the game.  Although short-handed, the team was able to hold off several late rushes by the Beavers to win by a score of 3-2. Riley Hrin led all scorers with two goals and Jim Monroe chipped in with the game-winning goal.  The win moved the Elks into the semifinal against Talawanda on Saturday night.

Once again, the Elks came out strong and fast and scored on the first two possessions to go up 2-0.  The team was able to keep a two-goal lead for much of the game until the Braves tied things up at 3-3.  A controversial call that should have been an icing against Talawanda led to the goal that turned the tide for good in the Braves favor. Despite the non-call, the Elks did not give up and fought hard until the end. The final score was 6-4 due to an empty net goal at the end of regulation time.  Drew Schemmel led Elk scorers with two goals and Dominick Del Ghingaro and Josh Seebacher also scored.

The team is in action this weekend in the state playoffs on Saturday at 2:00 pm against Columbus Academy at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.  If they win, they will play St Charles at noon on Sunday.
