Varsity Boys Volleyball · Beavers Keep Elks Winless on Jam the Gym Night

The boys volleyball program hosted their annual “Jam the Gym” event last night when they welcomed Beavercreek to CHS for a tripleheader.  The Elks were hoping the larger crowd would help spur them to their first victory of the season.  Unfortunately, Beavercreek had other ideas and spoiled the night for the host Elks.

In the first set, the Beavers sprinted to a quick 10-point lead, 15-5.  The Elks would eventually get going and got us as close as 7 at 22-15 before Beavercreek scored the last three points of the first set to win, 25-15.  The Elks jumped to a quick 5-3 lead in the second set, but the Beavers responded by scoring seven of the next eight points to go in front, 10-6.  They then scored the final seven points of the second set to win, 25-11, and take a commanding, 2-0, lead in the match.  The third set was, by far, the best of the night as the two teams were neck and neck all the way through.  The Elks had a 24-22 lead, but the Beavers were able to tie it at 24 and force extra points to be played.  The Elks persevered and won the third set, 28-26, to cut Beavercreek’s lead to 2-1.  The Beavers responded in the fourth set and closed out the match with a 25-13 victory for a 3-1 win.

In the opening game of the night, the JV B team defeated the Beavers, 2-1.  The Elks dropped the first set, 25-22, but responded to win sets two and three easily, 25-12 and 25-11.  The Beavers won the JV A match, 2-0, with two close wins of 25-19 and 25-21.

Now 0-4 on the year, the Elks will once again go for that first win here at home tomorrow night when they welcome Northmont to CHS.  The JV A game gets underway at 5:30 and the varsity at approximately 6:45.
