Varsity Girls Softball · Softball Falls Short in Bid to Upset Lebanon

The Lebanon Warriors softball team has set the bar really high in recent years with multiple state tournament appearances and high rankings in the state poll.  They have become the target for teams throughout the GWOC to try to emulate their success and bid to upset them along the way.  This past Friday night, the Elks took their shot at mighty Lebanon right here at CHS.

The visiting Warriors jumped out to a quick, 3-0, lead before the Elks scratched across a run in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 3-1.  A four-run bottom of the third in which the Elks left the bases loaded had the home crowd thinking upset with a 5-3 lead heading to the fourth inning.  Unfortunately for the Elks, the Warriors, as most championship level teams do, responded when their backs were against the wall.  They loaded the bases with nobody out and erupted for six runs to take a 9-5 lead heading to the bottom of the fourth.  A pitching change led to the Warriors shutting the Elks down the rest of the way.  The visitors added a run in the top of the sixth to make the final score 10-5 and extend the Elks losing streak to seven straight.

The JV team traveled to Lebanon on Friday night and lot, 22-1.  They then hosted Lebanon’s other JV team on Saturday for a doubleheader and dropped both games, 10-4, and 14-9.

Now 4-9 overall and 2-4 in league play, the Elks will look to snap their 7-game skid tonight when they travel to Edgewood High School to take on the Cougars.  The JV team hosts Edgewood here at CHS and both games get underway at 5:00 PM.
