The boys volleyball team traveled to the Thunderdome at Northmont High School last night hoping the third time would be the charm. The ELks lost at Northmont on opening night, 2-1, and then here earlier in the season, 3-1. Both were matches the Elks felt like they let get away from them and they were hoping to see the fruits of their labor last night to finally put them over the hump against Northmont. Unfortunately, the host Thunderbolts had different ideas.
Northmont took control early in the first set and cruised to a 25-15 win. Undaunted by the early onslaught, the Elks responded with a dominant set of their own and rolled to a 25-13 win, tying the match at a set apiece. The host T’bolts then won the third set, 25-17, forcing the Elks into a must win fourth set. As was the case with the previous match, the Elks had their chances to force the match into a winner-take-all fifth set, but came up on the short end of a 25-22 setback, giving the ‘Bolts a 3-1 win.
Now 4-10 on the year, the boys are back in action tomorrow when they host the CHS Varsity Elite tourney. Action gets underway at 10:00 AM and will feature seven of the best teams in the state of Ohio.
