To say this season has been frustrating for the boys volleyball team would be an understatement. They have had multiple opportunities in a number of matches to force a fifth set or get back in the match and put pressure on their opponent, but have yet to be able to kick in the door. This past week they had two more opportunities against two perennial powers, Division I Beavercreek and Division II Carroll.
First up was a trip to Beavercreek on Wednesday night. The Beavers had already defeated the Elks here at CHS this year and were looking for the season sweep. The Beavers came out on fire and rolled through the first two sets, winning each one 25-12. The Elks rebounded and had their opportunities in the third set, but nne bad stretch allowed the Beavers to complete the 3-0 sweep with a 25-19 win. In the first game of the night, the JV B team defeated the Beavers, 25-23, 25-23. In the middle game, the JV A team fell to Beavercreek, 25-20, 25-20.
On Friday night, the teams welcomed the Carroll Patriots to CHS for a tripleheader. The Patriots came out of the gates strong and won the first set, 25-18. The teams battled through a long second set only to see the Patriots squeak out a 27-25 win to take a 2-0 lead. Sensing the opportunity to close out the match, the Patriots took full advantage and won set three, 25-18, to win the match, 3-0. In the first match of the night, the JV B team fell 25-18 and 25-17. That was followed by the JV A match which was also won by Carroll, 25-19, 19-25 and 20-25.
Now 4-16 on the year, the teams are back in action on Friday night and things certainly do not get any easier. The Elks travel to Kettering on Friday night to face multiple DII State Champion Alter. The JV B game gets underway at 5:00, JV A at 6:00 and varsity at approximately 7:15.
