Varsity/Reserve Girls Cross Country · Girls Cross Country Competes at Lebanon Invite

CGXC traveled to Lebanon High School over the Labor Day weekend with its JV athletes and left with a slew of strong individual performances that lifted the team to victory in the Open race. Once again, the day offered exceptional late August weather with mild temperatures and overcast skies which the Lady Elks took full advantage of. In contrast to the previous week’s flat and fast Northmont course, Lebanon required a slightly more technical approach with its many turns and undulating nature.

The team was focused and in fine spirits as they took to the line for the start of their 3.1 mile endeavor. Immediately, a sizable Elk pack took control of matters and continued to push to the front as the race evolved. Ultimately, the Elks represented five of the top nine in the 172 runner field – finishing with only 27 points and easily placing first in the eight team field.

The team was led by senior, Katie Jauch, who fought hard for the win throughout the race, only to get nipped at the line. The scoring five for the Elks were as follows:

2nd – Katie Jauch – 21:44
3rd – Meighan Scarpino – 22:10
5th – Jana Masek – 22:19
8th – Hannah Mangen – 22:27
9th – Muriel vanShagen – 22:34

Other notable performances included…

13th – Audrey Cline – 22:41
18th – Emily Hall – 22:52
19th – Elizabeth Lunne – 22:54
20th – Sarah Salzman – 22:55
29th – Samantha Brandt – 23:26

Every week, this team takes another step forward and closer to their goals, propelled by their own energy created at events like this one. Congratulations to all who competed!

Next up, the team travels to the Marion Invitational on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University this Saturday. Both Varsity and JV teams will be competing.

Good luck, ladies! We’ll see you at the finish line…
