The varsity boys black and gold golf teams were in opposite parts of the state on Saturday to compete in invitationals. Gold made the long trip north on I-75 to compete in the Findlay Invite while black stayed close to home and traveled to Heatherwoode to compete in the Springboro Invite. Black played in the morning and gold in the afternoon.
Led by tourney medalist Will Owen’s 70 and runner-up Eric Cherubini’s 71, the team shot a 301 to finish as tourney champion of the 12-team field. Also scoring for the Elks were Stewart Backus with a 77 and Zach Hinkle with an 83.
The black team struggled in their tourney at Heatherwoode and shot a team score of 353 to finish 16th in the 18-team field. Noah Mangen led the way with an 85 and was joined in the team scoring by Josh Welsh (87), Seth Steffano (90) and Jerrick Liu (93).
Gold is back in action tomorrow morning when they travel to Beavercreek Golf Club to compete in the Beavercreek Invite. Tee time is set for 9:00 AM. Black returns to action on Tuesday afternoon with a 4:00 PM match against Alter at Yankee Trace.
