Yankee Trace served as the backdrop for a duel match yesterday afternoon between the boys varsity black golf team and the visiting Elder Panthers from Cincinnati. It turned out to be a very competitive match which came down to a few strokes. In the end, black protected their home course by knocking off Elder, 174-183. Leading the way for the black team was Seth Steffano with a 39. He was joined in the team scoring by Joey Conley (43), Josh Welsh (44) and Colin Stava (48).
Meanwhile, the JV team traveled to Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro to put their perfect record on the line in a tri-match against Mason and Springboro. The boys entered the day perfect and finished it the same way by defeating both the Comets and the host Panthers. Led by Tyler Cole’s 41, the Elks shot a team score of 169 to edge Mason (175) and defeat Springboro (195). Derek Bora added a 42 and Nicholas Pitrof and Luke Wisniewski each shot 43.
Black is back in action tomorrow morning when they travel to Clover Valley Golf Club to compete in the Bishop Watterson Invite. Tee time is set for 9:30 AM.
