Boys varsity soccer beat Princeton, 4-0, on Senior Night Saturday in a great all-around team performance. Thomas Maley scored off a great overlapping run and cross by Alexander Weller 11:49 into the game to start the scoring for the Elks. Aleks Thomas scored an unassisted goal 7:25 into the 2nd half to put the Elks up, 2-0. Landon Dull blew bast the Viking defense on a through ball and put the game out of reach with 15:25 remaining. With 7:06 left on the clock, Zach Golden scored on an assist by Kaden Combs for the final margin. The Elks were able to work together to contain the Vikings’ #10, one of the best individual players Centerville has faced this season. He is a player who is the Greater Miami Conference’s top scorer and had scored and/or assisted in all his previous games. Keaton Haugen and Max Green combined for the shutout, the team’s fourth of the season. Varsity improves to 8-4-1 with their seventh win in a row.
JV A beat Princeton, 1-0, to improve to 8-2-3.
Special thanks to Kathy Becker, Jamie Miller, Tiffany Sarver, and Cindy Laipple, whose hard work and excellent planning made this a memorable night for our seniors!
On Tuesday, all three teams are back in action. Varsity and JV A travel to Springboro to take on the Panthers. This is a must-win game if the Elks hope to repeat as GWOC champions. A large and rowdy Springboro crowd is expected, so a large herd of Elk supporters would be greatly appreciated. Don’t forget, Springboro is the team that eliminated your Elks from the tournament last year!
JV A kicks-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 7:15 p.m. Springboro plays its games at Wade Field, located behind the Springboro Intermediate School, at 705 S. Main St.
Also on Tuesday night, JV B travels to Oak Hills to take on the Highlanders for a 7:15 p.m. kick-off at Rapid Run Middle School.
