Varsity Boys Soccer · Boys Soccer Falls at St. Xavier

On Saturday, all 3 Boys Soccer teams had the daunting task of taking on perennial Cincinnati power, the St. Xavier Bombers, on their home turf.  Although the boys put forth a strong effort in each game, the Bombers were just too strong on this day.

Varsity fell 3-0.  After nearly 35 minutes of exciting back-and-forth action, the Bombers broke free and scored at the 35:07 mark to take a 1-0 lead.  The 2nd half was hotly contested as well, until the Bombers went up 2-0 at the 66:45 mark.  The Bombers put the game out of reach with a final goal with 5:48 remaining in the contest.  The loss dropped the Varsity Elks to 8-6-1 on the season.

JVA lost 1-0.  After a very competitive 1st half, deadlocked at 0-0 going into the intermission, the Bombers got on the board with a quick shot from outside the box that caught the lower right corner post to register the only goal of the game.  The Elks’ best chance to equalize occurred when an Elk shot clearly caught the outstretched hand of the Bomber defender inside his own penalty box, but the Elks’ protests on the non-call were met with silence.  The JVA Elks can be proud of holding perhaps the strongest team on their schedule to a single goal and fighting to the very end.  JVA falls to 9-3-3 on the season, with a final game against undefeated Beavercreek remaining on the schedule.

JVB also fell 1-0.  This was the 2nd meeting of the season between these 2 teams.  In their first match-up, the Bombers won 3-1.  This time the Elks came to play and had many scoring opportunities; however, the Bomber defense was too strong.  The Bombers scored 8 minutes into the game, and that was the only goal allowed by the Elks defense.  Great effort by the JVB boys against a tough team, holding them to only 1 goal.  The JVB boys end their season  with a record of 6-6-2.  Best of luck to everyone in their club seasons, and see you next year!

On THURSDAY, Varsity and JVA host the #7 State-Ranked Beavercreek Beavers in a much-anticipated set of games at Alumni Stadium.  The Varsity Beavers look to avenge last year’s Elk road victory, that was the Beavers’ 1st home loss since 2012.  Both teams would like to ride the momentum of a big victory going into the tournament.  JVA kicks-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by Varsity at 7:15 p.m.  It will also be “Black Out for Biederman Night”.  Our spiritwear crew will be selling “#1 Fan Black Out” t-shirts for $20/each, with all proceeds going to the Biederman family.  The t-shirts will be sold before and during the game.  Without a doubt, Centerville-Beavercreek is the biggest soccer match-up in the Greater Dayton Area, so come on out and support your Elks.
