The varsity boys soccer team welcomed the Tecumseh Arrows to Alumni Stadium on Saturday night for a second round OHSAA Sectional tournament game. The fourth seeded Elks were looking to advance to the District Semifinals with a win over the 19th seeded Arrows.
Early in the game, the Arrows stunned the Elks with a goal to take a 1-0 lead. Needing a response, the Elks got one right away when Jacob Bean and Thomas Maley scored consecutive goals to take a 2-1 lead with 26 minutes left in the first half. Maley scored again about nine minutes later to stretch the Elks lead to 3-1 with 17:30 left. Landon Dull scored three minutes later and Matthew Fahrenkamp two minutes after that to put the Elks up, 5-1, with 12:30 left in the half. Fahrenkamp scored again two minutes later and added a third at the 4:30 mark to give the Elks a 7-1 lead. That would be the score as the two teams headed to their respective locker rooms.
The Elks wasted little time as the second half got underway when Aleks Thomas scored to stretch the lead to 8-1. Over the next few minutes, Maley, Alec West and Alexander Weller added goals to give the Elks an 11-1 lead with 30 minutes to play. The Elks added two more goals over the final 30 minutes to post a 13-1 victory and advance to the District Semifinals.
Now 10-7-1 onn the year, the boys will get a shot at redemption tomorrow night when they face Northmont at West Carrollton High School in the round of 64. The T’bolts defeated the Elks in a regular season game early in the season, 5-0. The game gets underway at 7:00 PM.
