The boys and girls bowling teams got their seasons off the ground on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Columbus Square Bowling Palace to compete in the Kickoff Tournament. Both teams were part of a 32-team field which was loaded with some of the top teams across the state.
The girls, fresh off their state championship last season, knew they faced an uphill battle with a very young and inexperienced team. The girls battled hard all day and finished in 20th place overall.
The boys had a great day on the lanes and qualified as the top seed for the match-play portion of the tournament. After winning their quarterfinal match, the boys dropped a five set Baker semifinal to Fairmont and finished third overall. Brendan Salo shot a 699 to finish first overall in the field and Ian Dobran added a 682 to finish second. Both boys made the all-tournament team.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday when they host the Elk Invitational at Poelking South. Tourney action gets underway at 12:00 PM.
