While the rest of the CHS student body enjoyed some much needed r and r this weekend, the varsity hockey team decided to try to play four games in three days as a part of the Miami University Thanksgiving Tournament. Getting the chance to play at Goggin Ice Arena was a great experience for our kids and they made it pay off by picking up their first two wins of the year.
In their first game on Friday night, the boys took on perennial power Perrysburg and dropped a 9-0 decision. On Saturday morning, they faced Alter who had handed them a season-opening, 9-1 loss last Friday. This time around, the game was much more competitive, but the Knights still prevailed by a score of 5-2. On Saturday night, the Sycamore Aviators challenged the Elks in what turned out to be the best game of the weekend. The teams went back and forth, but in the end, the Elks held on for a 5-4 win. On Sunday morning, the boys took on Elder and played a great game, shutting out the Panthers, 5-0.
Now 2-3 on the year, the team returns to action with a pair of games this weekend. On Friday night, they travel to the Kettering Recreation Center to take on Beavercreek in a late-night match with puck drop scheduled for 10:00 PM. On Saturday night, they finally play their first home game of the year when they welcome the Springboro Panthers to South Metro for Hockey 4 a Cause night. Puck drop Saturday night is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
