The varsity wrestling team traveled to Perrysburg High School this weekend to compete in the Perrysburg Invitational Tournament, also known as the PIT, one of the toughest fields in the state of Ohio. The Elks endured a brutal start to the tournament, but rebounded nicely and ended up with a very successful weekend.
With the first round behind them, the Elks rolled up their sleeves and went to work on the mats. They wrestled themselves back from the horrible start in round one to be sitting just six points out of second place heading into day two. Luke Acuna, Damion Ryan, Avery Bair and Gunnar Pool wrestled their way into the semifinals while Simon Taylor, Meng, Nolan Winfield, Parker Hinkebein, Jonathan Bruder and Logan Brown placed themselves within two wins of earning a spot on the podium. Ryan, Acuna, Bair, Bruder and Pool all wrestled their way into a third place bout. Ryan and Acuna won their match while Bair, Bruder and Pool all finished fourth overall. Their efforts, along with those of the entire team, earned the Elks a third place finish in this always tough tournament.
The boys return to action on Thursday night when they travel to Beavercreek High School for a dual with the Beavers. Action gets underway at 7:30 PM.
