The varsity hockey team played a pair of games this weekend with one at home on Friday night and the other at Miami University Goggin Ice Arena last night.
On Friday night, the Northern Kentucky Norse invaded South Metro and the Elks knew they would have their work cut out for them. The defending Kentucky state champs had played the Elks twice the weekend before and shut them out both times. They would make that three in a row on Friday night as the Elks could never get one past the Norse goalie and fell, 11-0.
Last night, the team traveled to beautiful Goggin Ice Arena on the campus of Miami University in Oxford to take on a very talented Talawanda team. The Elks brought their A game early and were tied with the Braves, 2-2, on goals from senior captain Riley Hrin and Bill Monroe. The Braves took the lead for good in the second period, outscoring the Elks, 2-0, to take a 4-2 lead into the final period. A 3-0 shutout in the third gave the Braves a 7-2 win over an Elks team who fought valiantly, but simply ran out of gas.
Now 6-17-1 overall and 2-6 in league play, the Elks are on the road Friday night when they travel to Toledo Ice House to take on Whitmer and then travel to Sports Plus on Saturday to face LaSalle.
