The varsity girls basketball team lost to #5 Fairmont at home on Wednesday night, 43-41, in OT. The Lady Elks trailed 8-6 after the first quarter, but moved to a 21-18 halftime lead. The third quarter was a struggle for the Elks, getting outscored, 15-4, and trailing heading into the fourth quarter, 33-25. The Lady Elks responded by outscoring the Firebirds, 12-4, in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. The girls had a great final possession with two good shots to send it to double overtime but just could not get it to go down.
Senior Emma Stanley scored 13 points to lead the Elks and freshmen Kendal George added nine in a great team effort.
The JV team beat Fairmont tonight, 66-37, and the freshmen team won as well, 36-30.
The girls are back in action on Friday when they wrap up the regular season at home against Beavercreek on Senior Night. The Freshmen will play at 4:30, JV at 6:00 and varsity at 7:30.
