The varsity boys basketball team ended a great night for Centerville Athletics by claiming the outright GWOC American Division Title by beating Beavercreek at home on Senior Night, 72-59. The night began with the induction of three new members into the Centerville Athletic Hall of Fame, followed by a ceremony to celebrate the 2020 Seniors and then the nightcap was a championship basketball game in front of a raucous Herd who were all spirited in their “White Out”.
The Elks led from start to finish. Up 16-13 after the first quarter, the Elks extended their lead to 30-22 at the half. Big Mo was back in the lineup and his presence was evident on both ends of the court all night. All seniors contributed tonight and played hard. The third quarter saw the Elks outscore Beavercreek, 24-19, to lead, 54-41, going into the fourth quarter. The Elks then cruised to the final margin of 72-59.
Leading the Elks in scoring tonight were freshman Gabe Cupps with 21 points and sophomore Tom House with 15.
The Elks end the regular season with a 11-11 record overall and 9-4 in the GWOC American Division.
The Freshman Gold team won, 60-52, and the JV team won, 67-51.
The varsity and freshman teams now move on to tournament play while the JV team’ s season comes to an end with a record of 15-5. The varsity will play Tecumseh at Butler on Saturday, February 22nd at 5:00 pm. The freshman teams begin tourney play at CHS on Monday, February 17th.
