The varsity boys basketball team went over .500 for the first time all year with their 69-49 win over Tecumseh in the first round of the OHSAA Sectional Tournament played at Butler High School on Saturday. The boys struggled to get into rhythm and the pesky Tecumseh Arrows played very inspired basketball during the first half. The Elks led, 16-13, after the 1st quarter and, 29-24, at the half.
They came out in the third quarter and played at a level worthy of their #1 seed and outscored the Arrows 23-6 to take a commanding, 52-30, lead into the fourth quarter. The boys cruised from there to win, 69-49. The game included the customary hustle from the Elks and the great defensive effort that is part of their culture. Sophomore Rich Rolf had 17 points and junior Jayson Hayes 13 to lead the Elks.
The win makes the boys 12-11 overall on the season and they now advance to round two of the tourney and will play Tuesday, February 25th at 7:00 pm vs. Fairborn at Tecumseh High School.
