Elks News · Girls Soccer Knocks Off Mason In OT, Advance To Elite 8

The varsity girls soccer team hosted a well coached and talented Mason Comet soccer team on Tuesday at Centerville Stadium. Those in attendance were treated to an incredible soccer game with both teams leaving all they had out on the field. The Lady Elks were able to advance with a 2-1 OT victory.

Hailey Jeng got the scoring started by putting the Elks up 1-0 at the 29 minute mark of the first half. The Elks were able to take this lead into halftime. At the 22 minute mark of the second period Mason was able to get a goal off of a corner kick to tie the game. Both defenses took over from there and continued to make great plays that kept the game tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation.

In the 1st overtime Leah Firsdon made some great individual moves with the soccer ball and positioned herself in a spot to get a great shot on goal that found the back right corner of the net with 2:59 left in the 1st overtime to give the Elks a huge 2-1 win.

The Lady Elks now advance to the Elite 8 and will play the Lakota West Firebirds at Lakota West on Saturday November 7th at 7:00 PM. Codes will soon become available and as is always the case we will only share them with the players, coaches and trainers of the girls soccer team.

To say I am proud of these girls and these coaches may be the understatement of the year. They have handled adversity like a champion and have just kept moving forward, playing for each other and putting the team first!
