Elks News · Boys Varsity Basketball Storms Back, Beats Wayne 71-65

The varsity basketball team welcomed the Wayne Warriors on Friday night in what has become a great basketball rivalry between two talented programs. The Elks found themselves trailing most of the game but the Elks kept it close enough to make their strike in the 4th quarter. the Elks were down 20-13 after the first quarter but cut the deficit to 36-34 at the half.

The second half saw some fantastic basketball with both teams making great plays but Wayne was able to hold a 52-47 lead after 3 quarters of play. Early in the 4th quarter the Elks were down by 9 points and that is when Rich Rolf and the Elks made their move. Rolf scored 14 of his game high 25 points in the 4th quarter and the Elks turned up the defensive intensity and stormed back to beat Wayne 71-65. Tom House had 18 points for the Elks to go with Rolf’s 25. The win puts the Elks at 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the GWOC. If the Elks beat Boro at home on Tuesday they will clinch a tie for the GWOC title.

The Freshmen Black team lost to Wayne 56-53 in OT. The JV team lost to Wayne 68-60.
