Elks News · Girls Basketball Falls Short in Comeback At Mount Notre Dame

The varsity girls basketball team traveled to Mount Notre Dame to take on an undefeated and highly ranked Cougars on Saturday. The Lady Elks found themselves behind early and in a big hole. The Elks trailed 19-10 after the 1st period and 39-18 at the half. The Cougars built the lead to 52-30 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Lady Elks came alive in the 4th quarter outscoring the Cougars 33-20 in the 4th quarter cutting the lead to 7 with 2:30 left in the game but could not complete the comeback falling 72-63.

Mount Notre Dame attempted 46 free throws in the game which played a huge roll in how this game played out. Cotie McMahon had 26 points and Amy Velasco 13 points to lead the Lady Elks. Elks drop to 7-2 overall but have to come away feeling they can play with anyone given how they fought in this game.

JV lost to MND 43-36 and the 9th grade team lost as well 47-39.
